Dr. Sanders was raised in San Antonio and graduated from Incarnate Word High School (1990), the University of the Incarnate Word (1995), then obtained a Post Baccalaureate certification in Medical Technology from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (2000).
Although she was raised by artistic parents, she knew at an early age that medicine and animals were her passions, and that veterinary medicine was her calling. She obtained her veterinary degree from Colorado State University in 2004. After graduation, she practiced in Colorado and Arizona and worked in private practice as well as some of the largest and most progressive animal shelters in both states, including the Arizona Humane Society and the Denver Dumb Friends League. While at the Arizona Humane Society, she appeared in several episodes of Animal Cops Phoenix, and supported the animal EMT program by helping edit training manuals and provide instruction when needed. In 2012, she returned to San Antonio to be closer to family.
Dr. Sanders’ interests include internal medicine, infectious disease, preventative medicine, and most recently, acupuncture. Pain management is a particular area of interest that led Dr. Sanders to pursue acupuncture training. Dr. Sanders completed the Curacore Veterinary Acupuncture course in 2017 and will be fully certified through IVAS in 2023. She is passionate about how much she has been able to improve her patients’ lives so far by integrating acupuncture into her medical practice, and is excited to be able to continue to offer this highly effective treatment to her patients.
Dr. Sanders’ hobbies include: enjoying her family, practicing yoga, doing home improvement projects, reading, and going on whatever family adventures her husband plans. She is lucky to have a husband (Rob) and two daughters (Natalie and Emily) who are the loves of her life, and who support her passion for animals. The Sanders’ current animal menagerie includes 3 dogs, 2 cats, and 2 guinea pigs (Lilo and Stitch). All are former rescues or shelter residents.
Dr. Sanders feels the best part of being a veterinarian is getting to know every patient and owner personally and developing a lifelong relationship with patients and owners. Dr. Sanders is deeply committed to implementing practical treatment plans to provide the best health care for her patients as well as celebrating the sacredness of the human animal bond in every aspect of her medical care.

Dr. Mohammad Abdelhameed or “Dr. Mo” grew up in Jordan where he used to help his grandfather on the family farm. He especially loved caring for the litters of puppies they would have. He attended veterinary school in Jordan at Jordan University of Science and Technology, graduating in 2008. After working for several years in a mixed animal practice he decided to pursue a masterʼs degree in molecular biology at Fort Hays State University at Kansas, focusing his thesis on Prion disease in pigs. Missing veterinary medicine, he started working as a veterinary technician at Town and Country until finally completing requirements to obtain his official veterinary credentials here in the United States. Dr. Mo began working full time as a veterinarian in April 2022 here at Town and Country and we are as happy to have him as he is to be here.
Melissa “Mel” was Born and raised in Houston, Texas and was inspired by her late dog, Lucy, to enter the veterinary medical field. Melissa received a bachelor's degree in animal science from Texas State University in 2012. GO BOBCATS! That same year, she started her career as a veterinary technician, working at general practice clinics in New Braunfels.
2014 found Mel in San Antonio and in specialty practice at Blue Pearl. She spent 8 years and worked at two Blue Pearl hospitals, finding a niche for wound care and orthopedics, then ultimately found an absolute love for Critical Care. Melissa currently lives in Spring Branch with husband Kevin surrounded by the beautiful Texas Hill Country as well as countless deer, horses, chickens and llamas. She enjoys being an auntie on her days off to her nieces and nephew, as well as running, enjoying the Texas sun, going to the shooting range, or binging Netflix.
Melissa loves the intensive, personalized care of patients and supporting the unbreakable bond between pets and their owners. Mel’s passion for veterinary medicine includes being the best advocate for the patients that she serves. She believes it is truly a gift to work with animals and give them back the love, trust, and patience they give us. Her sense of humor and ability to “keep it fresh” keeps her coworkers entertained, and she loves being able to help mold and grow the young technicians of the future!
